A hazardous waste manifest is not normally required when shipping amalgam for recycling. The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), which contains the regulations and policy that governs the disposal of hazardous waste, does require that all invoices and records of shipments be saved.

The following information should be recorded and saved:
  • Date of shipment
  • Quantity of amalgam shipped
  • Destination (recycler's address)
The recycler should be contacted prior to shipment to confirm the shipping arrangements.
